ADAGUC workshop November 2018

Share your data as webservice
ADAGUC Workshop November 2018, KNMI, De Bilt, NL.

The fourth ADAGUC workshop was held from Wednesday 21 November to Friday 23 November. In total 22 participants from Portugal, Spain, Poland, Romania, Germany and the Netherlands joined up to get hands on experience with the ADAGUC software suite.

The aim of the workshop was to get acquainted with the software suite. The first day was to learn about the system. Presentations about ADAGUC were given including demonstrations from several projects where ADAGUC is used. The second and third day were for hands on experience. Participants worked on installing ADAGUC on their system and worked on getting their own data into the system. The KNMI Geoweb project, which aims to be the next web based meteorological working station for weather forecasting, was demonstrated and could be used by the participants themselves. Because GeoWeb uses ADAGUC components, it is possible to get your own data displayed in GeoWeb. During the workshop GeoWeb was used to display all sorts of datasets.

Thanks to the prebuild Docker containers, the installation of ADAGUC went smoothly. In the past installation and configuration of ADAGUC could take a substantial amount of time. During the workshop ADAGUC has been installed on several platforms like; Amazon AWS, Microsoft Windows and several Linux distributions.

Getting your own data in the system can be a challenging task. Datasets can be very heterogeneous. But when they conform to certain standards, they can easily work with ADAGUC. During two days we have seen several satellite products, nowcasting products, geojson products and observational data working in the system. All these datasets were brought by participants.

In conclusion we feel that the workshop was a success. Participants were very enthusiastic about the system and it’s capabilities. A particular interest was for the KNMI GeoWeb project. One of the outcomes of the workshop is that GeoWeb could become a community driven development for operational weather forecasting in the meteorological area. Overall we see many possibilities for cooperation between our institutes and we are happy that the participants enjoyed our workshop.
